⇒ an exclamation used by beggars asking for alms:

- for Christ's <God's> sake;

- for the love of Christ <God>;

- in Christ's <God's> name.

2. Христа ради просить, побираться obs [adv]

⇒ to lead the life of a beggar, ask for charity:

- X просит{{}}Христа ради ≈ X begs his bread;

- X lives on alms.

3. жить, делать что ≈ obs [adv]

⇒ (to live) at s.o.'s expense, benefiting from his generosity or (to do sth. - feed s.o., give s.o. shelter etc) as an act of generosity:

- (live <get sth. etc>) free of charge thanks to s.o.'s kindness;

- (do sth.) out of kindness <out of the goodness of one's heart, out of pity etc>.

4. coll [sent adv (parenth)]

⇒ please, I beseech you (used to make a request emphatic):

- for Christ's <God's, heaven's> sake;

- for the love of Christ <God, Jesus>;

- in Christ's <God's, Jesus'> name.
